NOTICE! Beginning October 1, 2001 Countries of the European Union [Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Ireland, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom] will require treatment and making of all coniferous Non-Manufactured Wood Packaging Material. All shipments exported from the United States and destined for an EU country must comply. The measures allow treatment of NMWP by fumigation, by chemical pressure impregnation or by heat treatment. All coniferous NMWP must display a mark enabling the identification of the treatment facility and the location of the facility. Emergency measures apply to new and used packaging materials: pallets, crates, skids, cases, reels, etc. Shipments that do not comply may be refused entry, destroyed, or treated. Questions about the NMWP program should be directed to USDA/APHIS/Export Services (301-734-8537) or the American Lumber Standard Committee (301-972-1700).
